Tengku Fakhry disappointed over title revocation

KOTA BHARU -- Tengku Muhammad Fakhry Petra said today that he is disappointed that his brother Sultan Muhammad V had revoked his Tengku Temenggong title and all awards that had been conferred to him.

He said he received a note from the Kelantan State Secretary yesterday notifying him of the Kelantan Sultan's decision.

"I am disappointed but not surprised that he has seen fit to take such an action," he said in a statement today.

He claimed that his brother had no power to withdraw his title and awards as he deemed his father Tengku Ismail Petra was still the Sultan.

Sultan Muhammed V was proclaimed as the Sultan of Kelantan on Sept 13 by Kelantan Menteri Besar Datuk Nik Abdul Aziz Nik Mat at the Istana Balai Besar in Kota Baharu to replace his father, Tengku Ismail Petra.

The former Sultan of Kelantan, Tuanku Ismail Petra Ibni Sultan Yahya Petra, last month filed a petition at the Federal Court registry in Putrajaya to seek the intervention of the apex court to declare as "unconstitutional" the proclamation of his eldest son as the new Sultan Kelantan. -- Bernama
